August Dering
When I was seven, I lived in a yurt in Colorado. When I was 10, I was Indiana Jones in the forest and Luke Skywalker on Degobah. I owned about a hundred rattlesnakes when I was 15 and I took pictures of them. That's when it started. When I was 17, I dropped out of high school, left home and crash landed in New Orleans. Later, I ventured west and went to the best photography school I could find; thankfully, just before it was ruined by for-profit education vultures. C’est la vie. After that I moved to LA and cut my teeth working for some of the best-loved photographers around: Mark Seliger, Ruven Afanador, Greg Lotus and John Russo to name drop a little. They, and many others, were gracious in their willingness to share their craft with me. I paid attention and have much to thank them for. These days, I stay busy with a mix of commercial and editorial assignments, as well as a healthy dose of personal projects that take me around the world.
When I’m not traveling I can be found in Los Angeles or Berlin.
I’ve crossed paths with some of the fine people that keep the gears turning at these companies, maybe ours will cross too?
